A Special Place
July 9-24, 2023
La MaMa Umbria is a special place for artists. I spent 2 weeks in the wonderful countryside of Umbria, immersed in the teachings of four master directors from around the world. The experience was enlightening and inspiring.
I am constantly looking for ways to improve, and this experience gave me such an opportunity. It’s a place to learn from others, and about yourself.
Uncle Vanya
A picture from an interpretive scene I directed based on the first scene in the second act of Uncle Vanya. All of us used parts of the La MaMa grounds to present our scene. Actors were other directors in our group. My set was the staircase pictured, as well as the wall. We had one day to prepare, with little rehearsal.

The Unhappy Archives
This is a picture of part of my Unhappy Archive, taught by Keng Sen Ong.
I used improv games to ask the question of “who is an outsider in society?” In this preliminary work, I explored some of my personal unhappiness and how that can become a shared experience. The games helped me to zero-in on an area to explore. My hope is to continue with this work a develop the archive to completion.
